Jesus Take The Wheel: 3 Die In Blaze At Honolulu Highway Missing Sprinklers
A four-hour blaze at a Honolulu apartment building claimed the lives of 3 this week and injured 12 others according to AP.
BUT…the saddest part is, the severely damaging fire would’ve been avoided altogether, if the building had sprinklers. Reportedly, The 36-floor building was built in 1971, before sprinklers were required.
The departed tenants were found on the 26th floor, where the fire broke out around 2:15 p.m. and then spread to the 28th floor of the Marco Polo residences, Fire Chief Manuel Neves told the news. Hundreds fled the giant condominium complex as smoke billowed from the upper floors. Firefighters did their best by going door-to-door searching for people who might be trapped.
According to the fire chief Manuel Neves, the fire could’ve been avoided:
“Without a doubt if there were sprinklers in this apartment, the fire would be contained to the unit of origin.”
Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell said the city needs to look at passing a law requiring older buildings be retrofitted with sprinklers.Well, duh. SMH.
